Week 5 2024 College Football Wrap Up And Top Performers

Believe it or not, we’re already approaching the midway point of the 2024 college football season.

This week was as big as any we’ve had so far, especially with one game that we usually have to wait until the end of the season to see. One thing we’ve learned is that this season has brought us some incredible individual performers.

So, let’s get started and review what we’ve learned from this week.

What Did We Learn After Week 5?

  • New coach, new season, same end result. No matter who’s at the helm, Alabama seemingly has Georgia’s number. Take away the Bulldogs’ valiant comeback in the fourth quarter, this game wasn't even close. Simply put, there were too many mistakes on offense, and Jalen Milroe had his way with the Bulldogs’ defense. This was a classic from start to finish in which the Crimson Tide showed why they should be ranked either No. 2 or No. 1 after their performance.

  • Well, if Kentucky had a more consistent offense, they would easily be a top 5 team. That said, if you watched them against Georgia, then one shouldn’t be surprised that they beat Ole Miss. This was no upset; the Wildcats owned the Rebels in the trenches on both sides of the ball. It will be interesting to see where they’ll rank after this outcome.

  • What else can be said about Michigan? They win games the only way they know best: defense and running the football. Though it worked against Minnesota, the question is, how much longer will the formula work?

  • For a little while, it looked as if Michigan State was going to make it an interesting game against Ohio State. However, the Buckeyes were too deep and too talented for the Spartans to even be in their shadow. Jeremiah Smith is amazing.

  • So, what exactly happened to Virginia Tech? They were clearly outplaying Miami on both sides of the ball and at one point, they were leading by 10 points in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for the Hokies, Cameron Ward got his game going and engineered a big comeback win. That said, the Hurricanes have serious issues in the trenches that they need to resolve if they want to be championship contenders.

  • At this juncture, it’s only right to put Indiana in the top 25. The Hoosiers have been one of the most consistent football teams this season. Not to mention, they’re 5-0 and averaging over 40 points per game. We’ll see what happens.

  • It’s time we give Avery Johnson and Kansas State the respect they deserve. They made quick work of a tough Oklahoma State team, and Johnson once again accounted for the majority of the Wildcats’ offensive output.

  • Boise State’s win over Washington State can be summed up in one phrase: too much Ashton Jeanty. When he gets going, he’s virtually unstoppable

  • 5-0 is 5-0. BYU may be college football's most intriguing team.
