For this occasion, we’re diving straight into the recap because there’s plenty to unpack from this past weekend of college football. So, let’s get started!
What Did We Learn After Week 4?
Michigan football is known for its physicality and grit, demanding a lot of patience from its viewers. USC, however, made the mistake of trying to adopt this style of play, which ultimately backfired on them. Kudos to head coach Sherrone Moore for securing the biggest win of his young coaching career.
So, who is James Madison? They are an FBS I team that delivered a historic beatdown on North Carolina. Not only did the Dukes defeat them at home, but they also got paid $500,000 to do so. Here are a few takeaways from this game: First, Dukes quarterback Alonza Barnett III is a phenom. Second, Tar Heels’ head coach Mack Brown might not have his job for much longer. And third, the ACC conference is even weaker than we imagined.
Marshall got off to a good start but soon discovered what Ohio State was all about. Simply put, the Buckeyes have so many weapons that they can afford to give up the first touchdown. The running back duo of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson combined for four touchdowns, giving the Thundering Herd defense plenty of headaches.
Clemson got off to a blazing start against NC State, scoring 28 points in the first quarter. From that point on, the Tigers absolutely dominated the Wolfpack. Perhaps playing Georgia in Week 1 wasn’t such a bad idea, because since that loss, they’ve rounded back into their old form
Nico Iamaleava faced his first real test against Oklahoma, encountering his fair share of obstacles. However, he persevered and secured a big win. Don’t be surprised if these two teams meet again in the playoffs.
Cameron Ward showcased his usual dominance in their victory over UCF. With this win, Miami should be approaching the top 5.
Arch Manning stumbled out of the gate in his first-ever start, but once he settled in, it was smooth sailing for him and the Texas Longhorns. Unfortunately for ULM quarterback General Booty, his primetime experience wasn’t as great.
In one of the wildest games of the 2024 season, Washington State pulled off a huge comeback win over San Jose State. If you haven’t heard of Cougars’ quarterback John Mateer, just check out his stats from this game. We’ll leave it at that
The Utah brand of football might not be the prettiest to watch, but it’s effective. The Utes’ defense shut down Oklahoma State’s high-powered offense and ground out a hard-fought win with their backup quarterback.
In a clash between two upstart Big Ten teams, Luke Altmyer and his Illinois Fighting Illini handed Nebraska their first loss of the season in overtime, in front of a sellout crowd at Memorial Stadium. Honestly speaking, these were two very evenly matched teams.
Speaking of rising teams, Stanford’s defense played a crucial role in securing their first-ever ACC win over Syracuse. We learned that the Cardinals boast one of the finest defensive players in the country in David Bailey.
The only thing we can say after Colorado’s comeback win over Baylor is that both Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders are icons. If you have the time, watch the end of regulation and overtime. Coach Sanders and his Buffaloes are must-see TV.
