Week 3 2024 College Football Wrap Up And Top Performers

Rivalry Week is still months away, but Week 3 this season surely felt like it.

With news of a revamped Pac-12 conference and the quality of games we received, the morale of college football has never been higher.

Now, let's review what we learned from Week 3.

What Did We Learn From Week 3?

  • Colorado State did a lot of barking in the days leading into their big game against Colorado. Yet, when they got on the field, they had little to no bite, as Coach Prime's squad relegated them to nine points.

  • UTSA, along with Texas Longhorns fans, got a glimpse of their future with Arch Manning, and boy, did it ever look good. Even if Quinn Ewers' injury keep him out an extended period of time, they're in good hands with Manning.

  • WIDE LEFT! It's fitting that one of the grittiest, most intense games of the season between LSU and South Carolina would end with a failed field goal. Despite being down 17-0 at the start, Brian Kelly's squad rallied to win the game.

  • Dillon Gabriel and his Oregon team made it very clear to Oregon State that they were a class above.

  • As things stand, Alabama is the only team capable of defeating Georgia. Nevertheless, Kentucky gave it their all and nearly pulled off a major upset.

  • This year's Backyard Brawl between Pittsburgh and West Virginia lived up to the hype. In the end, Panthers quarterback Eli Holstein engineered a last-minute game-winning drive that stole the game away from the Mountaineers.

  • The Behren Morton-led Texas Tech offense is elite. In the second quarter alone, the Red Raiders scored five touchdowns against North Texas. From what they've shown, this is easily a top-15 team.

  • For Michigan's sake, they should never have Davis Warren out there again. Frankly speaking, he was giving the football away like it was Halloween candy. If Sherrone Moore has any desire to be a contender, they need to figure out the situation at quarterback.

  • Boston College gave it their best effort, but receiver Luther Burden III was too much to handle, as the Missouri Tigers escaped with a victory.

  • After their embarrassing loss to Northern Illinois last week, Notre Dame did what many expected: take their frustrations out on Purdue in the tune of 66 points. The jury is still out on Irish quarterback Riley Leonard, but he had his best game of the season so far.

  • Cameron Ward is the most dangerous quarterback in college football. Before halftime, he had four touchdown throws and made it look effortless. Miami might be the most playoff-ready team right now.

  • So far, this season has not panned out as Kansas envisioned. Either they're bad or UNLV is really good. Speaking of which, the Running Rebels are for real.

  • South Alabama's historic victory over Northwestern State should earn them a spot in the Top 25.

  • Don't look now, but Arizona State is 3-0 and rising after the comeback win over Texas State.

  • The main takeaway of the Arizona vs. Kansas State game is that talent cannot always overcome depth. Tetairoa McMillan's talent was unable to overcome Avery Johnson's outstanding performance and the Wildcats defense.
