Big Time moments, big time performers.
So, we have come down to the final two weeks of the 2024 college football season. Even with this, there is still plenty of time before the college football playoffs commence on December 20th. To say the least, these weeks represent the last opportunity for teams to solidify their playoff position or steal a spot from a falling team.
Since we have little time to waste, here is a recap of what we learned from Week 13.
What Did We Learn After Week 13?
What we thought could happen, happened. Florida simply had Ole Miss's number, and Jaxson Dart did not do his team any favors. The Gators have been giant killers as of late, and they now have another one on their hit list. As for the Rebels' playoff chances, well, it does not look promising anymore.
Another team that has been giant killers as of late has been the Kansas Jayhawks. Unfortunately for Colorado, they had no answers in stopping star running back Devin Neal, who had his way with Coach Prime's defense. This loss likely confirms that the Buffaloes aren't a playoff team yet, but anything can happen in the last few weeks.
Arguably the biggest beneficiary of Ole Miss's upset loss was Tennessee, who took care of business against UTEP.
In a similar fashion to Ole Miss, Alabama may have ruined their playoff chances after a lackluster performance against Oklahoma. For all the Kalen DeBoer critics, this loss only gives them more ammunition.
Since their loss to Oregon, Ohio State has played on a completely different level, mainly their defense. Their impressive win over a once-undefeated Indiana Hoosiers team was a message to everyone that the Buckeyes are true National Championship contenders.
Penn State squeaked out a 1-point win over Minnesota, which beckons the question: are the Nittany Lions a Top 10 team? One thing is certain, their offense needs to get exponentially better if they want a chance to play for the National Championship.
It wasn't a question of whether Miami was going to beat Wake Forest; rather, it was about the quality of their performance amidst all the criticism they've received as of late. Well, on this occasion, they left no doubt as the Hurricanes' offense accumulated 508 yards of total offense, and the defense registered five sacks.
Once upon a time, Notre Dame was on the receiving end of the biggest upsets in college football history. Since then, they haven’t lost a single game, including an impressive victory over a formidable Army team. In our view, Marcus Freeman should be the leading candidate for the AP College Football Coach of the Year Award, given the exceptional job he’s done.
The biggest takeaway from Arizona State's big win over BYU is that Cam Skattebo deserves some Heisman consideration; he frankly earned that after his performance against Oklahoma State.
SMU is a dangerous team with Kevin Jennings as their quarterback. They've come a long way from the days of Preston Stone, and they look like a deserving playoff team.
