When you look closely at offensive lineman Tyler Beach, you may discover that he is not just any undrafted free agent.
During his time at the University of Wisconsin, Beach played a total of 57 games, with 29 starts. What is interesting to note is that in those starts, Beach played three different positions: right tackle, left tackle, left guard, and even tight end. Considering how the Steelers organization values positional flexibility in their linemen, Beach is the very definition of that.
When you look further into his resume, you will find that he was very accomplished during his time with the Badgers. During the 2021 season, they had the No. 2 rushing offense in the Big Ten Conference. Beach played a big role, starting all 12 games at left tackle. For his efforts, he earned several All-Ten honors from both his coaches and the media. A year later, he started at left guard and left tackle, allowing just one sack and two QB hits on 497 offensive snaps.
What does this mean for the Steelers? It means that the team may have a hidden gem in their hands. If anything else, they have a player who is capable of playing multiple positions on the offensive line, including tight end if assigned.
Having a player like Beach should help them in the event that injuries pile during what is expected to be one of their most difficult seasons in recent memory. He might prove to be useful to them in times of need if he could somehow secure a spot on the active roster.
