It almost seems like yesterday when the Steelers selected All-Pro linebacker T.J. Watt in 2017. Now he's entering his eighth season in the league.
In a recent interview with "The Athletic," Watt gave fans a reminder of sorts that his time as a football player could be limited. His brother, J.J., retired at the age of 33 in 2022 after 12 seasons; T.J. himself turns 30 this year. With his contract going through the 2025 season (with the possibility of extension), nothing is certain.
"I don't know if I want to play forever, but who knows? It is too hard to say. J.J said he didn't want to play super long, then things happened and he ended up playing longer. I won't know until that moment comes. I feel great right now, so I am kind of just living in the moment."
With his future beyond his contract years uncertain, Watt feels a greater sense of urgency to win a playoff game. During his interview, he stated that he is willing to do whatever it takes to win the playoffs and beyond before his career ends.
"I am trying to do anything I can do. We have so much turnover year to year and so many new guys that it is trying to learn as much as possible coming from guys from other organizations that have done it and won championships since being in the league."
