With the team likely moving on from Najee Harris, the Pittsburgh Steelers have devoted much of the offseason to finding their next starting running back. Based on recent trends since the Reese’s Senior Bowl, that player could be identified in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Among all the running back prospects, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty stands out. He is coming off a historic 2024 college football season, during which he recorded the second-most rushing yards in FBS history with 2,601.
In all likelihood, Jeanty may be taken much earlier than the Steelers’ 21st overall pick, which was the basis of DraftKings Sportsbook’s latest leaderboard. The Steelers have the fourth-highest odds of drafting Jeanty at +850. Leading the odds are the Dallas Cowboys at +190, who hold the 12th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Fortunately for the Steelers, this year’s pool of running back prospects is one of the deepest in recent years. Even if they miss out on Jeanty, they still have a strong chance of finding a quality player well-suited for Arthur Smith’s offense.
