Steelers Expected To Play In Ireland

It’s been nearly 30 years since the Pittsburgh Steelers last took the field in Ireland, but that’s set to change this upcoming season.

Yesterday, Ireland’s RTE website reported that negotiations between the NFL and Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) Headquarters are in advanced stages. The plan is for the Steelers to play a regular season game at Croke Park Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, sometime in September. Speculation suggests their opponent will be the Green Bay Packers.

While no official announcement has been made yet, it’s expected to come this weekend before the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

Given the deep Irish roots of the Rooney family, it seems only fitting that the Steelers would be the team. The last time they played in Ireland was during the 1997 preseason against the Chicago Bears, a game they won 30-17.
