After a hectic week of trades and transactions, the Pittsburgh Steelers were once again busy on the pro day circuit on Monday.
Early in the day, the Steelers representatives were reported to be one of many teams present at Syracuse Pro Day. Though the names of the representatives were not revealed, their likely players of focus were offensive lineman Christopher Bleich, defensive backs Isaiah Johnson and Jason Simmons, and defensive lineman Caleb Okechukwu, who was the main attraction for most teams in attendance.
What was unexpected was their appearance at Fresno State Pro Day. The player who stole the show at the event was defensive back Carlton Johnson, who ran a blistering sub-4.3s in the 40'. Last season, Johnson registered 54 tackles four interceptions, and seven passes defended.
As expected, the Steelers were one of 32 teams present at Miami's Pro Day, which featured two prospects that have been on their radar for much of the offseason: center Matt Lee, defensive back Kamren Kinchens, and safety/linebacker James Williams. It was later reported that the Las Vegas Raiders were the only team that had their head coach (Antonio Pierce) present at the event.
In the case of Kinchens, he ran 40' times of 4.56s and 4.57s, which were a big improvement from the 4.65 time he ran during the NFL Combine. Overall, Kinchens had a strong showing in various drills, displaying his quickness and ball skills. The most impressive showing came from Hurricanes receiver Tyler Harrell, who ran a 4.28 in the 40'.
With Alabama, Ohio State, USC, and Texas pro days coming soon, both Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin are expected to make an appearance in at least one of the events as they continue to build their 2024 draft class.
