For Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback James Pierre, it may not be like it once was during his first stint with the team. But since his return, he's made the most of his opportunities.
Primarily playing on special teams, Pierre has been quietly efficient when given defensive snaps at cornerback. In their Week 7 win over the New York Jets, Pierre registered a forced fumble with five tackles. A few weeks later against the Commanders, he recorded a pass deflection. Though he has played only 66 total snaps on defense, Pierre currently holds a 28.6% completion percentage and a passer rating allowed of just 47.9.
With the Steelers' secondary being relatively healthy for much of the season, Pierre's opportunities have not come as frequently as he would like. In the meantime, he continues to produce on special teams and is currently tied for the lead in total special teams tackles with six.
Though he may not hold the same title he once had, Pierre has done a formidable job reinventing himself, which will allow him to extend his career, whether it be with the Steelers or another team.
