Though rookie receiver Roman Wilson has yet to play an NFL snap, one analyst believes in his "breakout" potential.
In Bleacher Report's latest piece predicting breakout players on each NFL club this season, writer Matt Holder chose Wilson for the Pittsburgh Steelers over other worthy possibilities such as defensive lineman Keeanu Benton. In his study, Holder highlighted that Wilson has the potential to become the team's No. 2 receiver in place of veteran Van Jefferson, who has yet to establish himself in this role on an NFL team.
"Wilson is the first rookie breakout candidate as he has an excellent opportunity to immediately become the Steelers' No. 2 receiver behind George Pickens. The Michigan product's biggest competition for that role will be Van Jefferson, who is playing for his third team in two years, so the third-round pick should see plenty of targets this fall."
Prior to this year's NFL Draft, Wilson was rated as a top-10 receiver, having won a National Championship with the Michigan Wolverines and posting career highs in receptions (48), receiving yards (789), and touchdowns (12).
Wilson had the highest separation rate against man coverage of any receiver in his class, at 85%. Wilson demonstrated these abilities at this year's Senior Bowl, emerging as possibly the most complete receiver at the event. The Steelers selected Wilson with the 84th overall pick.
