For the Pittsburgh Steelers, this season will undoubtedly be one of their toughest in recent history, especially from Weeks 11 to 18, when they'll be facing either a playoff or Super Bowl-contending team.
One matchup that will surely be on receiver George Pickens radar will be their Week 7 matchup against the New York Jets. In that game, Pickens will have arguably his toughest challenge to date, facing All-Pro cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner.
Since his rookie year in 2022, Gardner has been regarded by many as the NFL's top defensive back. Last season, Gardner earned his second straight First-Team All-Pro nod after registering 57 tackles, 11 passes defensed, and a 56.4 completion percentage allowed. According to Pro Football Focus, Gardner earned the second-highest coverage grade of 90.8.
Pickens last season set career highs in receptions (63), receiving yards (1,140), and touchdowns (5) while under Matt Canada's offense. As a consummate threat on the outside, Pickens finished second last season in yards per catch with 18.1.
Both Pickens and Gardner hold similar frames at 6'3 and are known for their physical play. It is the type of matchup that could define his Pickens. Though he will likely see other difficult match-ups, this particular one could help elevate his status as one of the top overall players in the NFL.
