Does Milroe and Golden's Presence On Draft Day Reflect The Steelers 1st Round Intentions?

Two of the Steelers' top offseason prospect targets have accepted their invitations to attend this year's NFL Draft in Green Bay. The key question is: what does this mean for the team?

Among all the potential draft prospects for the Steelers, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe is one of only two players the team has met with on three different occasions. This includes a dinner meeting prior to his Pro Day, attended by general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin. Their interest in him was already relatively high before the event. After his impressive showing in front of them and numerous scouts, one could speculate that they might consider selecting him in the first round, especially given the uncertainty surrounding veteran Aaron Rodgers.

In the case of Texas receiver Matthew Golden, the team has met with him on two different occasions, most recently during a pre-Draft visit last week. Although the Steelers have already made a significant investment in All-Pro receiver DK Metcalf, there has been speculation about the team potentially trading talented receiver George Pickens during the Draft.

Throughout much of the off-season, the Steelers have focused on upgrading the interior of their defensive line. However, the team has invited only four defensive tackles to their facilities for pre-Draft visits, all of whom are likely mid-round quality picks. This suggests they might be heading in a different direction following the acquisition of former Patriot Daniel Ekuale. Recently, the team has shown some interest in selecting a safety in the first round, with South Carolina standout Nick Emmanwori visiting the facilities last week.

Both Milroe and Golden have been sought out by many other teams in addition to the Steelers, which likely contributed to them receiving their respective invitations. Even if the Steelers decide not to select either player, both may still end up being taken in the early rounds by another team looking to utilize their talents
