After a breakout performance on Sunday night against the New York Jets, rookie defensive back Beanie Bishop Jr. has caught the attention of many and is receiving well-deserved recognition.
In his latest top rookie performance rankings for Week 7, CBS Sports analyst Josh Edwards placed Bishop Jr. at No. 9 on his list. Edwards noted that Bishop Jr.'s contributions on defense against the Jets extended beyond the two interceptions he collected from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
"Most will assume that Bishop is on this list for his two interceptions on "Sunday Night Football" against the Jets. While those two players, were contributory, Bishop also did a good job in coverage throughout the course of the night and blew up Garrett Wilson in the backfield as well."
Heading into their Week 8 matchup against the New York Giants, one should expect Bishop Jr. to play a greater role in the defense, even with the pending return of veteran cornerback Cameron Sutton from his suspension after the bye week.
In seven games this season, Bishop Jr. has registered 20 tackles, two tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, a quarterback hit, and two interceptions. He is currently tied for second on the team in passes defended with four.
