Player Description

Name: Kaleb Johnson

School: Iowa

Position: Running back

Class: Junior

Height: 6'0

Weight: 225 lbs

Draft Projection: Late Day 1 to Mid Day 2 pick

Strengths:

  • Strong, physical runner

  • More substance than flash

  • Excellent field vision

  • Patient in his approach, which enables him to effectively find openings

  • Proficient at absorbing contact shock and keeping his momentum going

  • Excellent at breaking tackles and gaining yards after contact

  • Great feel for condensed space

  • Good short-area quickness

  • Decent acceleration when taking outside gaps

  • Keeps constant movement when taking contact

  • Reliable receiving hands

  • Good in pass protection

  • Highly instinctive

  • High football IQ - quick at processing information while running

  • Excellent with ball security

Weaknesses:

Johnson won't dazzle the opposition with his athleticism. Generally, he is a traditional, downhill runner with slightly above-average athleticism. Though he has a good initial burst, he lacks the top-end speed to break away from defenders.

As a runner, Johnson is rigid and lacks the hip fluidity to cut outside. Therefore, he is not ideal for outside zone concepts. When he is indecisive, he tends to stop his feet, making him susceptible to being stopped by defenders in the backfield.
