If there was one silver lining in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ loss to the Indianapolis Colts, it’s that they may have finally found their franchise quarterback.
Offense -
The story of the game was Justin Fields, who did something that no other Steelers quarterback had done in their history: throw for over 300 yards and rush for over 50 yards in one game. In the process, Fields put the team on his back and accounted for three touchdowns (two rushing and one passing). As expected, Fields’ value exploded following his performance and currently sits sixth among quarterbacks with 73.7 fantasy points, an increase of 12 spots from last week.
Speaking of strong performances, receiver George Pickens put together his best showing of the season, finishing the game with 113 yards on seven receptions. Last week, Pickens moved down to the 48th spot among receivers. This week, he moved up 16 spots to No. 32 with 45.9 fantasy points.
One of the biggest stories of the game was the production of both tight ends, Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington. In the case of Washington, he registered a career high of 31 receiving yards on two receptions, while doing it in highlight-worthy fashion. For his efforts, Washington moved up to the 33rd spot among players at his position with 14.1 fantasy points. Freiermuth continues to be a reliable target for Fields, and he did so against the Colts with 57 receiving yards on five receptions and a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Freiermuth continues to be a fantasy favorite, as he moved up seven spots to No. 5 with 38.6 fantasy points.
On the ground, Najee Harris struggled to produce meaningful yards, finishing with just 19 rushing yards on 13 carries. However, Harris did show some value as a receiver, finishing with 54 receiving yards on three receptions. Surprisingly, Harris moved up three spots to No. 28 among running backs with 41.2 fantasy points.
Cordarrelle Patterson, on the other hand, was very efficient on the ground and helped engineer the team’s first points of the contest before leaving with an injury. After finishing with 43 rushing yards on six carries (7.2 yards per carry), Patterson moved up six spots to No. 57 among running backs with 17.6 fantasy points.
Defense -
The Steelers’ defense had their worst outing of the season so far, but several players stood out and performed at a high level.
The ageless wonder, Cameron Heyward, made big plays late in the game and finished with a sack, six tackles, and three quarterback hits. After being the team’s highest fantasy mover last week, Heyward moved up 11 spots to No. 12 among defensive linemen with 28.2 fantasy points. Fellow defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi was equally impactful, finishing with 0.5 sacks, six tackles, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hit. For his efforts, Ogunjobi was the team’s highest mover, going up an incredible 86 spots to No. 57 with 15.4 fantasy points.
For the first time in a long time, T.J. Watt finished a game with no splash plays. One can assume that the Colts gave Watt extra attention during the course of the game; nonetheless, he came away with just two tackles. Watt moved down 14 spots to No. 21 among linebackers with 34.0 fantasy points. Nick Herbig, who started for the injured Alex Highsmith, also finished the game with two tackles. He moved down four spots to No. 77 with 18.2 fantasy points.
In the secondary, the only notable player against the Colts was safety DeShon Elliott, who finished with 12 tackles and a forced fumble. For his efforts, Elliott moved up to the 11th spot among defensive backs with 32.5 fantasy points.
