There is nothing quite like Steelers Friday Night lights.

On a beautiful  Friday evening, a full-capacity crowd (over 15,000) filled Latrobe Memorial Stadium to see their favorite players perform in prime time. It was an evening of football, family, fun, and celebrities, as the players signed autographs before taking the field for another training camp session.

This year's Friday Night Light's storylines include a sweep by the offense, a dominant tight veteran, and a monster unleashed.

So, Steelers fans, let's go!

Injury Report

Noted in Penn Live analyst Nick Farabaugh's report, offensive tackle Broderick Jones was seen sporting a brace on his right arm. Even with this, Jones still participated in the practice session. Quarterback Justin Fields once again took the reins as QB1 for the session in place of veteran Russell Wilson, who is slowly but surely returning to form.

Injury List -

  • WR Roman Wilson: Ankle

  • OL Broderick Jones: Arm (limited)

  • OLB David Perales: Knee (Reserve/Injured list)

  • RB Cordarrelle Patterson: Hamstring

  • LB Cole Holcomb: PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) List

  • DL Dean Lowry: PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) List

Steelers Friday Night Light Recap

Offense Sweeps The Defense

There have been very few times in which a unit wins the "seven shots" drill in sweep. On this evening, Fields led the offense to a perfect 7-0 score. Receiver George Pickens registered two touchdowns, while running backs Najee Harris and Aaron Shampklin also saw the end zone.

DeMarvin Leal Unleashed

Since Day 1, third-year defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal has been playing like a man possessed. Coming into this year's camp, Leal has been on a mission to prove that he's worthy of a roster spot, and so far, he's gone beyond that. One aspect that has dramatically changed has been his intensity. On Day 7, he was involved in a scuffle in which punches were thrown. Today, he dominated tight end MyCole Pritt during the one-on-one sessions. He is clearly not the same Leal we have seen in previous years.

Markus Golden Dominates

A little more than a day after being re-signed, veteran edge rusher Markus Golden went on to be possibly the best performer on Day 8. In addition to winning all of his one-on-one reps, he dominated the team practice with multiple stops. By all reports, Golden has not only not skipped any steps, but he appears to be doing better than before.
