After a strong first day in pads, what would the Steelers do for an encore?
As they did yesterday, the team took the field on a sunny Wednesday morning for another practice session. Today's storylines include a running back on a hot streak, a fullback on the rise, and rookies defending their quarterback.
So, Steelers fans, let's go!
Injury Report
Veteran offensive tackle Isaac Seumalo did not practice in pads for the second day in a row. It is reasonable to believe that he may have suffered an injury during one of the sessions last week, even though it has not been confirmed. On Day 6, quarterback Russell Wilson was ready to go, but Justin Fields was the one who carried on with QB1 for the day. Wilson participated in the team sessions very little, just like he did the day before.
Also returning to action was tight end Rodney Williams, who suffered an AC joint injury during Day 3 of training camp.
As confirmed by various sources, rookie receiver Roman Wilson is week-to-week with an ankle sprain he likely sustained during the team's "seven shots" session yesterday. The team signed receiver Tarik Black earlier today.
New to the list was outside linebacker David Perales, who sustained an injury during the "seven shots" session.
Injury List -
WR Roman Wilson: Ankle
OLB David Perales: Knee
G Isaac Seumalo: Undisclosed
RB Cordarrelle Patterson: Hamstring
LB Cole Holcomb: PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) List
DL Dean Lowry: PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) List
Steelers Camp Day 6 Recap
Najee Harris Is On Fire
After a strong showing on Day 5, running back Najee Harris took it up another level on Day 6. In addition to registering another two touchdowns during the "seven shots" session, he won two consecutive reps against veteran linebacker Elandon Roberts.
Jack Colletto's Stock Rises
Get to know fullback Jack Colletto if you haven't already, since his recent performances have seen him rise rapidly. He led the way on Harris' winning touchdown as the offense defeated the defense in "seven shots, 4-3. He would later flatten linebacker Mark Robinson in one-on-ones. If Colletto keeps up this kind of play, he should be able to earn a spot on the squad given the team's need for a fullback.
Defense Dominates Team Session
When it came to making splash plays, the defense made plenty of them during the 11s-vs-11s session. Defensive lineman Montravius Adams was a standout once again, while Larry Ogunjobi accounted for a forced fumble and would-be sack. UDFA Jacoby Windmon also got involved with a forced fumble, cornerback Grayland Arnold recorded his second interception of camp on quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, and Alex Highsmith registered a would-be sack.
Rookies Defending Their Quarterback
Roberts shoved Fields at the end of a run in the latter portion of their session, which led to a brawl between rookies Mason McCormick and Troy Fautanu. This demonstrates just how much they value their quarterback.
