New additions mean new obstacles for third-year linebacker Mark Robinson to face in training camp.
What holds true about Robinson is his ability to make the most of his opportunities when given the chance. In his rookie year, Robinson played only 14 defensive snaps. This past season, Robinson more than tripled his defensive snaps to 151 in two starts.
Production-wise, Robinson has displayed his ability to stop the run, an aspect that has been somewhat of a weakness for the Steelers defense. His most notable performance came in Week 17 against the Baltimore Ravens, when he recorded four tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble, while playing an important role in relegating the Ravens offense to just 10 points in their big win.
This offseason, the Steelers prioritized upgrading at the interior linebacker position. With the signings of All-Pro Patrick Queen, talented rookie Payton Wilson, and veteran Elandon Roberts, Robinson has limited room for error if he wants to make the roster. Then there's Cole Holcomb, who had a "favorable checkup" in March after undergoing ACL surgery and rehabilitation. Robinson will face yet another challenge with his return.
In 17 games (with two starts) last season, Robinson finished with 30 tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hit. He also logged 302 snaps on special teams.
